Northview Special Care Unit
Enhancing Quality of Life Our 20 bed Special Care Unit provides care for those living with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. It is important that each resident feels successful and productive. Having a daily routine and a selection of choices increase the sense of freedom and independence. A dedicated staff directs simple tasks such as laundry folding and a variety of recreational activities. Personal care and emotional support is provided to your loved one 24 hours a day. With our knowledgeable staff and available on-site hospice programs, we provide care for most end staged Alzheimer's residents- creating peace of mind and a place to call "home."
A Safe & Secure Environment The Special Care Unit is specifically designed to accommodate the special care required for these special individuals. The unique floor plan encourages social interaction and allows freedom to walk about safely, always in clear view of the staff. Each resident's room is located along a continuous indoor, carpeted walking track. There are no dead-end corridors and to help address Sundowners behavior, the large, open space provides a peaceful view of the outdoors from non-glare cathedral windows at both ends. Secured outdoor courtyards are accessible for enjoying the peaceful wooded surroundings.
The furnished, private rooms include accessible half-bath, large closet and bay window with non-glare glass and can be personalized with items from home. The average living area is 14’x12’. Call buttons are positioned at bed and bathroom for easy alerting of our support staff. Our central bath has a large barrier-free shower room and whirlpool kebo tub. All exits are secured with an alarm system to deter wandering.
Caring & Supportive Service Our high staff ratio (1 staff for 4 residents during the day) provides for personal and attentive care and support. Supervision of medications, aide with self-feeding, and help with continence care are some of the areas we assist in. Supervised recreation includes group activities such as music/entertainment, reading and storytelling, daily life tasks, exercise/walking, games, and crafts. One-on-one social time and reminiscing are also important to our residents and facilitated by our dedicated staff.
Three nutritious meals (including desserts) are served daily as well as healthy snacks. A flexible schedule of mealtimes and diet modifications are accommodated.
